A Love of Learning

This week I was reminded of my love of learning.

Instinctually as human beings, I believe that it’s instilled in all of us to yearn to learn new things. I firmly believe that we all have our own different paths in our lives- that’s what makes us unique!

So, while I may enjoy learning in a classroom, you may enjoy learning in a completely different environment- perhaps one without a technical ‘teacher’ lecturing in front of you, and a place where written tests don’t exist. The consumption of new information can simply come from casual conversation, rather than a slide deck projected on a wall.

Either way, I know it’s something that excites me. Admit it… don’t you love the feeling of being able to share your knowledge with someone? It makes you feel pretty good, doesn’t it?

Immersing myself into a new culture has already come with an abundance of new learnings- some philosophical and others, mere facts that I find fascinating.

1. The word ‘Otium’- “the value of not doing.” The idea of taking time to experiment and explore, and giving yourself space to do things that nurture you.

2. Italians say they are creative because they live in beauty. As an outsider, I have observed that there is such an appreciation and celebration of beauty here. Whether it’s art, fashion, or culture, it truly exists everywhere and they aren’t afraid to say it.

3. Lamborghini started by making tractors, not cars. It was only after driving a Ferrari, attempting to give Enzo Ferrari tips on how to improve it, and ultimately being asked to leave, that Lamborghini took his observations and made a car of his own.

5. “The more you know, the less you need.” – Let My People Go Surfing
