It’s Time to Get Thrifty!

Happy weekend!! Can you believe it is almost halfway through the month of June?! I know I can’t!

Have you ever been thrift shopping or bought something second-hand? Whether you have or not, you’re in luck. This week’s post is dedicated to just that!

Earlier this week, I went to two different thrift stores – 3fifteen and Thrifty Shopper. I was able to find some great things in both locations.

Side note: I’m planning on doing some sewing this summer and I have been on the hunt for deadstock fabric. For those who don’t know, deadstock fabric is leftover fabric from companies. Typically, this fabric is either thrown away or burned. For some reason I was having a hard time finding places that sell the deadstock fabric. Because I am trying to stay dedicated to living as sustainably as possible, I did not want to buy brand new synthetic fabrics. I wanted to make clothing from fabric that needed a new life! So then I thought, why not take a trip to the thrift store?!

The thrift store is great. Although it may be overwhelming when you first walk in, it is totally worth the time and patience. No two stores are the same, so you never know what you’re going to find. Isn’t that exciting! Additionally, buying second-hand is another sustainable way to shop, and it’s much less expensive! By buying the clothing from these thrift stores, you are giving a second, or third, or maybe even fourth life to the garments.

Before I go any further, I do want to add this; even though thrift shopping is tons of fun and inexpensive, it is important to keep in mind those who cannot afford to buy anything from anywhere else. This is not meant to discourage you from thrift shopping; however, it is a reminder to be courteous and mindful of others. Overall, my main point is that you shouldn’t really be walking out with piles of clothes every week. I mean, if we take a step back, the whole idea of living sustainably is to consume less anyway. Thrift shopping is a great treat once and a while, but it is also important to keep it all into perspective.

This week I had 10 great finds. Most I am planning on altering into something completely different, so stay tuned!
