My All-Time Favorite Christmas Movie

This post may seem a little unconventional for the “theme” of my blog, but I considered this worth it. It doesn’t have to do with fashion or the environment, but more so the importance of family and remembering to always show and give our love to those special people in our lives, especially this time of year!

Last night I sat down and watched my favorite Christmas movie of all time. Year after year I am able to sit down and enjoy every second of it without it ever getting old. That’s when you know it’s really good… What movie am I talking about you ask? The Family Stone.

Whether you’ve already seen it, or have never even heard of it… it’s a must watch this holiday season (and every one after that)! 😉 This movie fills me with an immense amount of warmth. This isn’t meant to be some sort of “promotional” post, but I just love it so much that I felt I needed to share it with all of you.

Warning: You will 110% need a box of tissues, for both happy tears and maybe even some sad ones. But you see, I think that’s the beauty and power of this movie. It tells a story of the true meaning of family and is a great reminder that no one is perfect. When I reflect on my life thus far and my family I think of one word. Imperfect. Aren’t we all…? I think that’s what makes all of our lives and experiences so beautiful. The Family Stone captures a perfectly imperfect family. They live in a house that actually looks lived in… Can you believe it? I feel like our perception of what a house should look like or how a family should act is so clouded and distorted due to the rise of social media and people just living through their phones. Watching this movie gives a refreshing perspective. There are magazines and books sloppily piled on desks and tables. The kitchen is clean, yet messy. The coffee pot isn’t always full, and sometimes breakfast ends up spilled all over the floor… But that’s not what matters. What matters is the company, the laughs, and the love.

Another message I absolutely adore from this movie is the reminder that no matter the age, we are all kids at heart. Our siblings are still our siblings, and our parents are still our parents. And like I said, nothing is perfect, no person, no relationship. In the Stone household, holidays include chasing your brother around the house because you’re mad he took something of yours… within a matter of seconds, you’ve transformed from the serious, mature adult you’re “supposed” to be, into the kid you were 10 or 20 years before. That’s it. That’s the key. In the end, I truly think our family is what keeps us young. When looking past the hardships, no matter how many, think about the laughter and the warmth. Laughter is what feeds the soul. Ever so often we need those certain people to remind us to not live so heavily. Especially in times of turmoil (like now). Life’s an adventure and a rollercoaster all in one. Lots of ups and a lot of downs… We might as well share it with those who can make fun, but also love us endlessly.

One last thing, I understand that the word “family” means different things to everybody. It’s not always going to be a blood relation. To me, at the end of the day, whoever is providing you with the love, support, and happiness necessary in life… they’re your family. The Family Stone is a great reminder of all of that and that is why it will forever be my favorite Christmas movie.
